The VivoBarefoot Shoe was originally designed by one of my pupils by the name of Tim Brennan who's now a colleague of mine. Tim had very very bad feet - you could say he was clumsy. So he decided that he would try to strengthen his feet and give himself better balance, and quicken the movements - i.e. all the general principles that you can find with the Alexander Technique.

This shoe has been designed over a long period of time and i have been connected with it to a certain degree.

Now, when Tim came to me his movements were awful and he once said to me I'm going cut away a pair of shoes I have - I'm going to turn them into skeleton type shoes to give me a barefoot effect. I said to him I have knowledge of this type of thing because when I was working at Millfield School I had a player by the name of John Haak who had the most awful looking footwork you could ever imagine. One I day I caught him playing tennis without shoes on a hard court and I had to ban him because toenails can be ripped off doing this on a hard court. So, I had to ban him from doing it and in so doing he decided to cut his leather shoes - to take away all the sides etc.

I had knowledge of barefoot tennis - so encouraged Tim to do what he was thinking of doing and my goodness the difference in his performance.... the strengthening he got from playing almost barefoot was incredible. His balanced improved... everything we talk about when we talk about poor feet suddenly became a thing of the past. And so, the vivobarefoot.com site can introduce you to a method of improving yourself beyond belief - just the same as Tim.
