The stroke you describe is really known as a kicked forehand shot.
Anybody can do it if they've got the skills.
You have to hit from below the height of the ball, going up the back
of the ball to the left hand side. It produces a side spin that twists
in the air and then kicks to the left.
Anybody can do it if they practice properly and they have the right
amount of skills.
This stroke has been used for many many years by many many players,
but we see it more now because of the quality of camera work, etc.
