Building a Tennis Court - Conclusion

David's Best Court Tips:

  • Planning permission may not be required for building a tennis grass court in your back yard.
  • Allthough the stipulated area for a tennis court is 120 feet by 60 feet, 110 by 55 is adequate for most people and can shave thousands off the cost.
  • Putting fencing only around the backs of the court saves money and is visually less intrusive.
  • Cutting the corners off at 45 degrees doesn't effect play but instead is visually more pleasing and it also trickles the tennis balls to the centre.

Synopsis

David's experiences of building his own tennis court in his own back garden have taught him much.

This article contains many valuable lessons for those wanting to be play tennis in their backyards. It is also an entertaining story in itself and contains additional maintenance tips that are valuable wisdom for any tennis player.

There were many people who had strong opinions about the project. First, David had to appease his wife and make the court a less intrusive feature of their garden. He achieved this through subtle yet effective layout design innovations.

Once the construction was built, David's envious neighbours started to complain that the sound of tennis was like "Chinese water Torture".

In the end the local authorities said that it could only be used during office hours for tennis coaching.

Despite all this, David still recommends that if you've got a bit of land spare it is wonderful to have your own court at home. So, let's get started.
