If you see a beginner, he will set it he will need the regularity of a ball coming out into the same position and he just stands there and hits it back. And so he’s not using imagination at all. He’s just trying to hit a tennis ball back over the net. There’s not much imagination in his game.

But you watch Federer. He plays the ball from anywhere, any length, back over the net, to any part of the court. It’s quite phenomenal how he can do it. ‘Cause half the time he hasn’t got time to think, and yet he is thinking. It’s amazing. Imagination is a wonderful thing.

But so many of us are so interested in just one thing. Getting it over the net and into court, that type of thing that we don’t experiment - our skills don’t allow us to. You see? So...  As I say, a ball machine can be fantastic value. OK? There’s nothing like playing a game against an opponent. But you can get everything you need out of a ball machine providing that its regular - that’s the main thing.
