Again I can tell you... don’t forget that a ball machine was a wall. You used to hit it against the wall and it would return the ball to you. So you could play against a wall in the old days. And I remember telling a player who reached a very high level.

“You must get off of that damn wall, because you’ve got to learn to play against a person that’s talking. The wall can’t talk to you”. You see... and he was a devil, but he reached a wonderful level by that automated way of playing – which is what a ball machine is, you see.

So you could say but a wall isn’t regular – it has little deviations on the wall, where the mortar has come out, it hits that part of the wall...

It keeps you guessing, yeah...

Yeah... so... and all sorts... And then you use a ball that’s a bit flat, and so on and so on... and so...  But a wall is a very good way of practicing. Oh I’ll tell you tell another story about that if you want, if you’ve got the time.

Yeah, sure. Absolutely, yeah.
