I don’t think that is superstitious. I think that is... he was highly sensitive. Yeah, but when he used to pull his socks up and... you know... scratch his nose... I don’t know what he used to... there’s too many to count... but that... I mean it does get a bit over the top. Well, some of them become totally neurotic, don’t they? Before he serves He takes the ball up in the air and tosses it in the air to let it fall down on the ground so he just does that and at the same time he plucks the back of his shirt collar. It’s almost like a superstition or a neurotic attitude. Whichever way you look at it, it’s just one of these things that tennis players do do. I used to always spin my racket in my hand because I got into the habit of always playing forehands with the smooth side of the racket and backhands with the left. And half way through I couldn’t remember whether I was holding the racket with the.... oh it goes on and on and on. So I ended up spinning my racket every time so that I didn’t end up becoming neurotic during a rally. Because I.... Oh it’s very, very peculiar what some people do. Such as some players in football must come out of the tunnel last. They are superstitious. Some players won’t put their boots on until they’re in the tunnel, waiting to go out. They do all sorts of things... |
